Matt Evans

About Me

I'm a senior technical specialist with a career spanning world class post production facilities, national digital heritage infrastructure, and government ICT programmes.

I have a broad technical background covering hands-on experience with complex media and archival systems, combined with the technical leadership skills to design, procure, and implement them at scale. I've worked across Weta Digital, Park Road Post Production, the National Library of New Zealand, and the Department of Internal Affairs.

I'm drawn to technically complex problems in specialist environments where the infrastructure genuinely matters — archival systems that need to last decades, post production pipelines where downtime has real consequences, or new facilities that need to be built right from the ground up.

Core Technical Areas

  • Digital preservation systems & archival infrastructure
  • On-premises NAS storage & UPS scoping for mission-critical archival environments
  • Post production infrastructure (Avid, DaVinci Resolve, Pro Tools, HDR/Dolby Vision)
  • Network architecture & systems integration
  • ICT procurement & vendor management
  • Technical documentation & operational handover

How I work

My superpower is context switching and getting up to speed fast. Whether it's a new platform, an unfamiliar stack, or a specialist environment I've never touched before, I hit the ground running and deliver without needing to be carried.

I also bridge the gap between technical and non-technical. Whether I'm working with a stakeholder, a producer, or a board, I translate complex infrastructure into language that lands.

Work

Network infrastructure and server environment

My career has taken me from world class post production facilities — including Weta Digital and Park Road Post Production, where I supported underlying infrastrucutre and workflows for productions including Ghost in the Shell, Mortal Engines, The Beatles: Get Back, and the Dolby Vision HDR remaster of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies — through to national digital preservation infrastructure at the National Library of New Zealand, and government ICT programmes at the Department of Internal Affairs.

Across these environments I've developed deep expertise in technically complex, specialist systems where reliability and precision genuinely matter — and where the consequences of getting it wrong are real.

National Library & Archives Heritage Campus · ICT Commissioning & Technical Delivery

Led specialist technical delivery for one of New Zealand's most significant cultural heritage infrastructure projects — the design and fit out of a new purpose built Heritage Archival Campus in Wellington, bringing together the National Library of New Zealand, Archives New Zealand, and Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision under one facility for the first time.

Acted as the key technical liaison between the Te Ara Tahi programme team and Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision, defining detailed requirements for the relocation and integration of Ngā Taonga's collections and systems into the new campus. Led the design and documentation of local storage infrastructure for audiovisual and film digitisation and long-term digital preservation, and oversaw technical testing, commissioning, and Business Acceptance Testing across specialist AV and digitisation environments.

Delivered in a complex cross agency environment spanning external vendors, and technical teams — requiring strong stakeholder engagement and the ability to translate technical requirements into practical, maintainable solutions.
